A LOOK AHEAD

By: Melissa Pevay, Marketing Manager at The Longmeadow Shops

The Longmeadow Shops was pleased to have been recently a part of the Reminder Publications Community Outlook 2019 section. The special section featured updates and recaps from leaders, influencers, politicians, educators, businesses, etc. in the community. When I put together the piece for the newspaper I knew that there was the possibility of a few NEW happenings here at “The Shops” this summer, but we just could not spill the beans at that time. Now, a few weeks later, we can be more specific. Here we go…

#1 – Many of you have mentioned that you hope to see an ice cream option return back to The Longmeadow Shops. Well, your wish has been granted. We are excited to announce that we are partnering with Batch Ice Cream! The awesome Batch Ice Cream Truck will make an appearance at The Longmeadow Shops every Tuesday afternoon/evening beginning June 18th through Tuesday, August 27th. Batch Ice Cream uses real recognizable ingredients, fresh New England dairy, no gums or carrageenan, and organic non-GMO cane sugar. A small selection of Batch Ice Cream is also available every day by the pint at Delaney’s Market.

#2 – The Children’s Department at Storrs Library and The Longmeadow Shops is teaming up this summer to bring Storytime to “The Shops”! Storytime will be held on the patio in front of Great Harvest Bakery on June 11th, July 9th, and August 13th from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Each session will kick off with a special activity like face painting, glitter tattoos, or balloon twisting provided by our friends from Dazzle Day. Then everyone can find a spot to sit and enjoy a story or two with a member of the Storrs Library staff. Each child will also receive a take and make a craft. More details are available on our event page.

#3 – We are thrilled to be the host location for the Cars of Longmeadow Car Show which will be held at The Longmeadow Shops on Sunday, July 28th from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. The show is free for all spectators. You can register a car for $25, online registration is now open. Event proceeds benefit the Lupus Research Alliance. Last year this event raised over $8,000.

#4 –  There are TWO new “shops” opening in 2019 at The Longmeadow Shops. The first newbie will be Posto, an Italian restaurant from the Federal Restaurant Group. Posto is currently renovating the former Bertucci’s location at The Longmeadow Shops and is scheduled to open in the late spring or early summer. The second newcomer to “The Shops” is SkinBe Med Spa! SkinBe recently leased the vacant space in between Talbots and Jos. A. Bank and will open later this year. This is an exciting addition! Stay tuned for more information.

Now you know what we know! In addition to all this newness, you can count on the Thursday Farmers Market coming back, starting June 13th as well as the return of the Speed and Sprocket Works Bike Shop Pop-Up. The best way to stay up to date on all the happenings is to follow us on Facebook or Instagram. The Longmeadow Shops Welcome New Businesses and Experiences (published 2/14/2019 in The Reminder)

The Longmeadow Shops setting and unique mix of national and local “shop” owners keep our quarter-mile long lifestyle center on Bliss Road in Longmeadow bustling. 2019 promises to bring some fresh options and the return of a few seasonal favorites.

The most drastic change that visitors will see this year, is the complete remodel of the former Bertucci’s space. The gazebo will be removed from the storefront to make way for a more modern design. The newly remodeled space will be home to Posto, an Italian style restaurant from The Federal Restaurant Group. Posto is scheduled to open this spring, guests will see menu items like house-made pasta and pizzas, a fantastic new bar area with indoor-outdoor seating, and a completely redesigned dining room. Posto will be the perfect spot for date night or a meal out with your family.

Guest to The Longmeadow Shops may see something new in the vacancy next to Jos. A. Bank in 2019. The Farmers Market will return on June 13th and will operate every Thursday through the end of October.  The Speed and Sprocket Cycle Works mobile bike shop will pop-up in our parking lot once again this year. Additionally, we are working to bring a few new family-oriented activities and pop-up options to “The Shops” this summer.

Stores like J. Crew Mercantile, the R-Wireless Verizon store, Talbots, and Great Harvest Bread Co. are newer to the center and are looking forward to another successful year. Baystate Health Urgent Care joined The Longmeadow Shops last summer. The new urgent care facility is a welcome addition to Longmeadow and the communities surrounding. In 2018 businesses like United Bank, Caren & Company, Gift-ology, Max Burger, Chico’s, GAP, Ann Taylor and Delaney’s Market partnered with local organizations to help raise funds for multiple causes. We thank the community for their support and look forward to partnering with other organizations throughout the coming year.

Our number one message to the community in 2019 is, shop local! The mix of locally and nationally owned stores, restaurants and businesses found here is unique. The common thread between them is that the owners, managers, and employees are your family, friends, and neighbors. We encourage you to support the local economy by visiting local businesses when possible.
