Hi! I am so glad you stopped by! My name is Katie McGowen and I am a local Fashion/Lifestyle & Mommy blogger from Longmeadow! I’ve been lucky enough to be born and raised right here in town. You can find me on my website www.bootsandbuttons.com. My instagram handle is @bootsandbuttonsblog. I would love for you to follow along!
I am THRILLED to partner with The Longmeadow Shops on “Everything Spring”. Spring is such an exciting time, right?! It means the days of snow, cold weather and rain are *mostly” in the past, and dresses, tans and warm weather are in our near future. Transitioning into Spring can be a tricky one! Especially in New England. The second you think of putting away those heavy cardigans, another snow storm hits! I know what you’re thinking…”Katie, the snow is never-ending” SIGH. I agree, but Spring clothes turns over much faster in stores these days so get your hands on the good deals when you can!
Finding a few good capsule pieces for transitioning into Spring is key! You’re going to want a few lighter pieces that layer well and are functional as well as stylish. Enter: Francescas! Francescas has some great lighter weight knits, florals and high waisted trousers…all of which are perfect for transitioning into Spring. For one of my favorite looks of the day from Francescas, I knew I could throw a jean jacket or a lighter sweater overtop of the pantsuit in the likely event of a somewhat chilly evening. Easy peezy! Don’t ever feel like you can’t buy that cute dress or floral top in the middle of March! BUY IT! It will be perfect at the right time and can always work when the weather warms up with the proper layering pieces!

For my second look, I went with a beautiful green dress, perfect for St. Patricks day! It’s lightweight, yet long sleeve which is appropriate given the weather lately. We had a beautiful 55 degree weather day last week and this would have been perfect with some over the knee boots and a Moto jacket. OH, and a tan! 😉
For my third and final look, I fell in love with these high waisted navy and white striped shorts! They have the most precious tie detail with a scalloped waist. Perfect for tucking in a simple white or navy tank for a casual look or with a floral blouse for a more dressed up look! When I saw this floral blouse, I had to have it! It can be paired with so much and those are the types of pieces I want for Spring. You could pair this fun blouse with white jeans, black jeans, a high waisted skirt. etc. I just love it so much! ALSO, HI Savannah! There’s my 8.5 month old at the bottom of the picture, always shopping with mama!
I can’t forget these white denim jeans from J. Crew Mercantile. They are PERFECT for all year round. White can be the key to transitioning to Spring, too. They brighten up any old sweater or long sleeve top you have on. I pair my white jeans with flats, boots, mules etc. This fun pom pom scarf is adorable, too! They have a grey one which I mayyyy just have to go back and buy!
When out shopping at the Longmeadow Shops, it’s easy to fall in love with all of the bright colors stores like J. Crew Mercantile, The Gap, & Francesca’s have out. SO, if you’re still looking for ideas on how to transition into Spring, the slow New England way…listen up! I’ve got 5 ways to help!
Brightening up your outerwear is an easy hack for transitioning to Spring.
Don’t hide all of your white clothing after Labor Day! Break out the white denim and wear it proudly!
If you have a chunky knit you adore, and aren’t quite ready to store it away yet, pair it with a high waisted skirt.
Utilize your over the knee boots. It’s like pants for your legs but much cuter 😉
Keep your longer layers in light fabrics, nothing too heavy.
I hope you enjoyed my post and we hope to see you out shopping at The Longmeadow Shops soon!
Xo
Katie
